Survival.

Give a man a fish he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish he will eat for a life time.

Give a man a gun he will rob a bank.
Give a man a bank he will rob the world.

We adapt and adjust.
Constantly dithering on the cusp
Of what is considered wrong and right,
Ensuring that our ambitions remain in sight.

We would be willing to do anything
In order to get what we truly desire.
We would be willing to risk everything
Even putting our friends in the line of fire.

We may share the bounty with others,
Allowing them to experience the fruitful taste.
Given the option we will even care for our brothers.
Just as long as we are well endowed with songs of praise.

We are opportunists.
We are convincing and ruthless.
We are the modern day Judas.

Something I have been working on for a little while. I tried to keep the rhythm tight and consistent attemping to use a minimal amount of words. I hope you guys like it and I hope it works :)

Evolutions (survival) is based on symbiotic co-dependency, not survival of the fittest.

For once a prokaryote engulfed a cyanobacteria
And unconsumed, it became part of a whole,
Providing the chloroplasts of the plant cells.

For once a prokaryote engulfed an aerobes bacterium
And unconsumed, it became a part of a whole,
Providing the mitochondria of our animal cell.

For it is cooperation, not competition, which drives our evolution.
Let the Neo-Darwinist fight it out,
While we trade our genetic information on an open exchange
To the satisfaction of the concerned parties.

Can't fault your poetry though, enjoyed.

A good poem on the rotten side of human nature, for sure.

Ah, but give a man forgiveness for all his sins and remind him that the son gave all for him...would he be so bleak?

It works. :) And if it's a cynical appraisal of humans, I share it wholeheartedly.

I like it :) Its realistic, the scheme is coherent, and its certainly well portrayed.

Its a narration of our society's incision by derailing factors.... much like a razor that peels through like a knife.

Most of the time, this is my take on humanity today..

Hmm rather cynical take on humanity, and our need to survive or strive, and innovation, though not necessary an inaccurate one.
